🧭 what this is
a page for recognizing when i am stuck before i start assuming i am lazy, broken, doomed, or personally responsible for the entire weather system.
being stuck usually means something is blocking movement.
it does not always mean i lack motivation.
sometimes the problem is unclear expectations, too many choices, low energy, fear, missing information, or a task that has secretly grown antlers.
🔍 signs i am stuck
- i keep circling the same task
- i reread things without acting
- i cannot choose the next step
- i keep switching between options
- i feel busy but nothing moves
- i keep opening and closing the same file
- i am waiting for the “right” mood
- i feel like i need more information, but i am not sure what
- i avoid the task but keep thinking about it
- every option feels wrong, risky, or too much
- i feel irritated by the task existing
- i want someone else to tell me what to do
- i keep making the task bigger instead of smaller
🧩 common reasons i get stuck
- unclear expectations
- no defined finish line
- too many choices
- missing information
- fear of doing it wrong
- fear of disappointing someone
- low energy or sleep fog
- emotional activation
- task is too big
- task feels judgeable
- priority order is unclear
- the next step is not visible
- i am trying to solve the whole thing at once
🪤 the trap
stuck says:
“think harder.”
sometimes thinking helps.
but sometimes thinking harder turns into a mental hamster wheel wearing office shoes.
the way out is usually not more circling.
it is reducing the task until one safe next action appears.
🚦 stuck check
what am i stuck on?
-
what am i trying to decide?
-
what feels unclear?
-
what information is missing?
-
what am i afraid will happen?
-
what would count as done enough?
-
smallest visible next step:
- 🧰 what helps
- name the exact stuck point
- separate “unclear” from “scary”
- define what done means
- reduce the number of choices
- pick the safest acceptable option
- ask one clarifying question
- make a rough placeholder
- do the smallest visible step
- stop trying to solve future problems first
- choose movement over perfect confidence
🪜 unstuck ladder
- pause
- “i am stuck.”
- locate
- what part is stuck: start, choice, clarity, energy, fear, finish?
- shrink
- make the task smaller until one action is visible
- choose
- pick the safest good-enough option
- act
- do one tiny real thing
- reassess
- did movement create clarity?
🛑 what not to do
- do not wait for certainty
- do not shame myself for being stuck
- do not keep rereading without changing anything
- do not make a giant new system
- do not add more options while overwhelmed
- do not treat confusion as failure
- do not turn a small block into a full internal committee hearing
- do not decide the whole day is ruined because one task has become a brick with opinions
💬 useful scripts
when i cannot choose
i do not need the perfect option. i need a safe-enough option.
when i do not know where to start
start where the task becomes visible.
when i need clarity
what does done mean, and who decides that?
when i am afraid of doing it wrong
a rough version gives me something to correct.
when i am circling
circling is not solving. make one mark.
🧠 reminder
being stuck is a signal.
it means something needs to be clarified, reduced, chosen, rested, or started badly.
the goal is not to force the whole task open.
the goal is to find the smallest hinge and wiggle it until the door admits it exists.
